Scrubtits are very small bushland birds.
Their underparts, from chin to undertail coverts, are white, with
pale-brown flanks. The sides of the head are grey, the lightest grey
areas being in front of the eyes, which are surrounded by white
eye-rings.
The upperparts, from frons to rump, are grey-brown to a warm hue of
brown, merging into darker grey-brown on the inner wings. The wing
coverts and flight feathers are dark-grey with narrow white outer
margins. The greater secondary coverts have broad white tips,
which form prominent white bars on the folded wings. The white
tips and accordingly the bar on the median coverts is much less
obvious.
The irises are pale-grey. The rather long, narrow, dark-grey bill
is slightly downcurved. Legs and feet are the colour of skin.

populates most of Tasmania, apart from the north-eastern tip.
On King Island, race "greenianus"
is found.

with a dense understorey of ferns and
shrubs.
