Grey Honeyeaters are very small nectar-eating birds.
Their plumage
is very inconspicuous.
The entire head, the neck and the back, all the way to the
rump, are slate-grey. The flight feathers have thin pale-olive
leading edges and are otherwise a darker shade of grey than
the back. The tail is the same shade of grey as the flight
feathers.
The front, from the chest down to the undertail coverts, is
light-grey to off-white.
The irises are dark, while the pointy, slightly downcurved
bill and the legs and feet are grey. The base of the lower
mandible is a lighter shade of grey than the rest of the bill.
Juveniles
have a pale gape and pale eye-rings.

Reports on ebird of birds submitted by birdwatchers from
the Australian Outback tend to be clustered along roads
and public areas such as camp grounds; in such cases their
distribution is not a good representation of the overall
distribution of the species.
Grey Honeyeaters are endemic to the Red Centre of Australia.
They populate the the central parts of WA into the south-western
quarter of the NT, to just beyond the border into north-western
SA.
Grey Honeyeaters have a strong preference for arid Acacia
scrub and
woodland.
They also populate inland sand dunes with flowering
shrubs
and mallee-type
eucalypts.
They also visit gardens,
in particular in Alice Springs, NT.
