Tawny-breasted Honeyeaters are medium-sized nectar-eating birds.
Both sexes are alike.
Ear coverts, cheeks chin and throat are grey, while the rest of
the underparts is tawny with faint grey streaking.
Below the eye and bare skin, from the lores to behind the eyes
they have a prominent white curved stripe. The crown is dark-grey,
while the rest of the upperparts, including the tail, is
greyish-brown. The wing feathers have tawny edge lining.
Race "filigera"
has a flecked neck and hindcrown, while race
"saturatior" has a plain neck and hindcrown.
The irises are dark.
The slightly down-curved strong bill is black, wiile the legs and
feet are grey.

The range of the Tawny-breasted Honeyeater extends from West
Papua via New Guinea to the Aru Islands and southward to far
north-eastern Australia.
There are two races of Tawny-breasted Honeyeaters in Australian
territory.
Race "saturatior" is found only on islands along the Torres Strait,
while race
"filigera"
resides in the northern part of Cape York peninsula, as far to the
South as the Malaman River on the western coastal fringe towards the
Gulf of Carpentaria and to the McIlwraith Range on the eastern side.
Tawny-breasted Honeyeaters have a preference for tropical
rainforest,
monsoon forest
and fringe vegetation around those, but also
mangrove
and heath.
