Streaked Scrub Warblers are very small, wren-like birds.
Their plumage is
highly cryptic.
The head, except for a black eye stripe, is grey, heavily streaked
with darker grey. The chin and breast are light-grey, streaked
with darker grey, while the belly, vent and undertail coverts
are just light-grey. The sides/flanks have a buff hue.
The back, mantle and wing coverts are grey; the flight
feathers are brownish-grey. The tail, which is often held cocked,
is dark-grey.
The irises are dark. The long, slender and slightly down-curved
bill is dark-grey; the legs and feet are dark-grey with a
pinkish-brown hue.

The Streaked Scrub Warbler is no longer deemed to be conspecific
with the Saharan Scrub Warbler ("Scotocerca saharae") found in
northern Africa.

The Streaked Scrub Warbler's range extends from about the Sinai
peninsula in the West and parts of the Middle East (Palestine,
Lebanon) via parts of the Arabian peninsula and through parts
of Iraq and Iran into southern Asia (parts of Kazakhstan,
Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan).
In Arabia Streaked Scrub Warblers populate the near-coastal fringe
of the Red Sea in western Saudi Arabia to the southern tip in Yemen,
some more patches in Yemen and in southern Oman
and a wide strip encompassing the North coast and adjacent mountain
ranges of northern Oman, from near the eastern cape to the western
base of Musandam in the UAE.
Streaked Scrub Warblers have a preference for arid to semi-arid
habitats with low scrub. They are often found in mountainous
terrain or on the slopes of mountains or hill ranges.

A pair of Streaked Scrub Warblers was spotted by us at Jebel Akhdar,
South-west of Muscat, in low shrubs at an altitude of about 2400 m
in February 2010.
