Calar Alto Observatory

In the Sierra de los Filabres, near Almeria, Spain, at an altitude of about 2200 m, Calar Alto observatory, a German-Spanish collaboration, operates a total number of four optical telescopes.

The telescopes range in size from 3.5 meters (above) to 1.23 m (below).

Many years ago, when I visited Calar Alto, Hamburger Sternwarte (Germany; external link) operated a Schmidt telescope at this observatory which has since been relocated.
