Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT)

With its 14 25-m telescopes, the WSRT is the largest European interferometer. The WSRT is an East-West interferometer, in which all telescopes are lined up on an East-West track. Comparing the signal of every antenna with that of each of the others, one obtains 91 so-called "correlations", or interference patterns, at any time. The WSRT is located in the province of Drenthe in the north of the Netherlands. The photo was obtained under typical Dutch weather conditions.
