Eungella Honeyeaters are small nectar-eating birds. Their
outward appearance is very inconspicuous, making them hard
to locate in the usually dark environs of
rainforest.
Their upperparts, from frons to tail, are uniform dark-grey,
while the underparts are uniform mid-grey that is broken only
by lighter-grey feather shafts, creating a faint streaky pattern.
The only deviations from this overall grey appearance are on
the sides of the head, namely white gape lines, small white spots
behind the eyes and slim white plumes on the edges of the ear
coverts.
The irises are light greyish-blue. The only slightly down-curved
bill is black. Legs and feet are dark-grey.

Eungella Honeyeaters are endemic to north-eastern Australia.
Their range is the most limited of any Australian breeding
passerine bird,
being restricted to plateau
rainforest
in the eastern Clarke Range and Sarina Range, westward of Mackay,
QLD, spanning only about 20 km x 60 km in total area.
Eungella Honeyeaters have a preference for the edges of, and gullies
in, rainforest,
usually above 900 m altitude. In winter they may descend
to lower altitudes to find flowering trees.
