Key plants used by Australian birds:
Cypress pine (Callitris [...], Actinostrobus [...]))

Aboriginal names: "bindarreegah" = Native pine; "coolooli", "coorung-coorung", "gurraari" [gamilaraay] = Cypress pine
"dhani" [gamilaraay] = sap, resin

The name "Cypress pine" is in use in Australia for two genera of closely related conifers. The name cypress pine should probably only be used for genus Callitris. They are mostly found in the moderate to semi-arid parts of the continent and Tasmania. There are male and female trees. Germination is triggered by the scorching of cones in bushfires. Apart from attracting some bird species (e.g. the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo) with their seed cones, areas of dense cypress pine growth are popular hunting grounds for lots of insect-hunting bird species.
